Chevrolet Silverado EV joins Cybertruck and Ford F-150 in price increase woes as Chevrolet reveals cheapest trim will cost US$50,000 - NotebookCheck.net News

While much was known about the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado electric pickup truck, pricing was one of the more exciting parts of the package, since Chevrolet had previously promised pricing to start at as little as US$40,000. It's recently been revealed, though, that this low-cost EV will start at US$50,000 instead.

Chevrolet confirmed to InsideEVs that the previously-announced US$40,000 Silverado EV would be replaced by an as-yet-unannounced US$50,000 trim, with other trims filling the US$60,000-80,000 price brackets, as well. As far as launch models go, Chevrolet will launch the Silverado 4WT with a starting price of US$79,800 for fleet customers, with the cheaper 3WT following shortly after, and the Silverado EV RST First Edition coming in at a whopping US$105,000 MSRP. Chevrolet also notes that the Silverado EV will be manufactured in the US with a mix of globally- and locally-sourced parts, meaning some trims should qualify for the federal EV incentives to soften the blow.

As far as competition goes, Rivian's entry-level R1T starts at US$71,050 and delivers 270 miles of range, while Ford's F-150 Lightning starts at US$59,974 for the Pro trim that gets an estimated 240 miles of range. The upcoming Tesla Cybertruck suffered similar blows to the low-price trim when Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, announced that the US$40,000 Cybertruck would not be happening due to inflation. Comparing these vehicles with the Silverado EV reveals that Chevrolet's offering, although not quite as competitive as before, will still be able to hold its own — especially if the US$50,000 trim has reasonable range figures.
