Mezitli Municipality, the central district of Mersin, created a production area to spread the use of hydroponic production in the area. Seedlings started to be planted in the soilless production area by the teams of the Park and Gardens Directorate.
With the project, lettuce and strawberries are produced in water with the hydroponic system, and pepper, cucumber, and tomato are produced with the cocopeat system. Products that are not harmful to human health will be grown using a natural and balanced feeding method without using any chemicals. Aquaponics System
Informing that hydroponic agriculture is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions in water without using soil, Park and Gardens Manager Hasan Orhan said, "The biggest advantage of this system is both high production yield in a narrow area and high added value because it is premium quality and healthy products. Drought is a realistic possibility in the near future in this area, and via this process, we save water and ensure that better quality products are grown."
Stating that they grow plants in soilless agriculture by providing them with the nutrients they need, Orhan added, "The plant completes its development according to the nutrients it needs. We grow lettuce and strawberries in water with a method we call the hydroponic system. We produce peppers, cucumbers, and tomatoes with the system we call cocopeat. "While they are grown in a balanced way, no chemicals are used. In this way, natural and nutritious products that are beneficial to human health are harvested."
